New Name Revealed For Downtown Pittsburgh Hotel

Big changes are coming to an embattled downtown Pittsburgh hotel.

The former Pittsburgh Hilton will become the Pittsburgh Wyndham Grand Hotel.

"We're very excited to come here. It's a city we've had on our target list for a long time," Steve Miler with Wyndham Hotels and Resorts said. "We're excited to be here."

The Wyndham Grand is the high-end hotel in the Wyndham chain, the largest hotel brand in the world.

"This is a real coup for Pittsburgh because Wyndham Grand has said, 'We embrace you with a Rolls Royce brand, and here we come, Pittsburgh,'" Frank Amedia, hotel asset manager, said.

Under the arrangement, the former Hilton as a Wyndham Grand will undergo another $1 million upgrade, not counting the completion of the exterior addition.

This arrangement, however, was the subject of a bankruptcy court hearing where the lender, Black Rock Financial Group, wanted to make sure that its $49 million loan was protected. The court approved an agreement to give the bank some time to review the documents.

Officials with the hotel say we'll start to see signs of the transition to the Wyndham Grand within two to three weeks.
