STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State backup quarterback Matt McGloin could move up the depth chart this weekend if starter Rob Bolden isn’t cleared to play for Michigan.

The freshman Bolden got knocked out of last week’s Minnesota game with a possible head injury. He was scheduled to undergo more tests Wednesday.

McGloin and sophomore Kevin Newsome have been splitting first-team reps in practice, but it was McGloin who came off the bench first Saturday after Bolden left.

McGloin finished 6 of 13 passing for 76 yards and two touchdowns, including a momentum-changing 42-yard touchdown strike to Derek Moye in the second quarter for his first career completion.

The former walk-on said that while he’ll be nervous Saturday if Bolden can’t go, he’ll also be better prepared.
