Latrobe Man Charged With Raping Teenager

A Latrobe man is charged with raping one teen and attempting to rape another.

Gregory Mohring, Jr., 21, is charged with rape, attempted rape, statutory sexual assault, indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors.

Police say he met two teen girls near a Latrobe playground on Sept. 11 and exchanged phone numbers.

He exchanged around 40 text messages with one of the girls before arranging to meet her near the pool house at Legion Keener Park. The girl told police Mohring claimed to be 17. She says he threw her phone out of her reach and raped her.

Later that evening he asked the girl's friend to go with him for a walk. They went to a vacant house on Leather Street where Mohring allegedly attempted to rape the girl. She was able to get away.

Mohring is free on $1,000 unsecured bond. He faces a preliminary hearing on Monday.

Latrobe police did not make themselves available for comment on the incident.
