Wexford Elementary Students Give To Turkey Fund

The KD Turkey Fund has raised millions of dollars for our neighbors in need, and children have become part of the effort.

This afternoon, KDKA's Rick Rayton was in the North Hills to help the kids at Wexford Elementary kick off their annual fundraiser.

The students in Wexford love to read and fight hunger in Pittsburgh.

Christine Krill, a Wexford Elementary parent, explained the student's annual fundraiser.

"We do this through our read-a-thon and the children are able to get donations from family members whether it be per book or how many minutes they read during the week and they collect those donations and bring them and our our goal is to feed a family for every Wexford family," Krill said.

Last year, Wexford's annual "Read-To-Feed" program raised enough money to feed 427 families.

Rick Walsh, Wexford Elementary's principal, explained the success of their fundraising program in past years.

"In the last five years, Wexford Elementary has raised, with matching funds from PNC Bank, $57,000 and fed over 3,800 families," Walsh said.

Their goal this year is to feed 343 families - one for each student at Wexford Elementary.
