Pens Work On Defensive Play At Practice

The Penguins were back on the CONSOL Energy ice this morning after blowing a two goal third period lead last night to the Boston Bruins.

A huge theme to today's practice was defensive play especially in their own end.

Pens defensemen, especially Alex Goligoski, struggled mightily, giving away pucks and allowing odd-man breaks.

Center Evgeni Malkin was given the day off by head coach Dan Bylsma, allowing him to rest his left knee. Also, defenseman Deryk Engelland remained the odd-man out.

Here's something to worry about. Goaltender Brent Johnson appears to be coming back down to earth, allowing 12 goals in his last three starts.

Here were the line combinations during practice:

1st line: Kunitz - Crosby - Dupuis
2nd line: Cooke - Comrie - Asham
3rd line: Rupp - Letestu - Kennedy
4th line: Talbot - Adams - Godard

1st pairing: Martin - Michalek
2nd pairing: Orpik - Letang
3rd pairing: Goligoski - Lovejoy
4th pairing: Engelland - Orpik
