PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – According to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Pirates have announced four names to fill the coaching staff under new manager Clint Hurdle, who was hired last week.
Ray Searage will remain the teams pitching coach after he impressed both the players and front office personnel last year in replacing Joe Kerrigan who was fired on Aug. 8.
Long-time Pirates employee and one of the finalists for the new Pirates manager position, Jeff Banister, was named as the third base coach. Banister was the bench coach for part of the year after Gary Varsho was fired along with Kerrigan.
Gregg Ritchie was promoted from the minors to become the team’s hitting coach.
Hurdle’s choice for bench coach goes to Nick Leyva, who was previously the bench coach for the Toronto Blue Jays and has Major League experience as previous player.
