Shopping Black Friday? Plan For Rain

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- You've made your list and checked it twice, now you need to know what time your favorite store is opening on Black Friday and what the weather will be like when you get out before dawn to battle the crowds.

Reporter John Shumway and Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla teamed up to find out the answers.

John says all of the Toys R Us stores in the region open at 10 p.m. Thanksgiving night. If you're shopping at the one in Monroeville or points east, Jeff says you'll find temperatures hovering around 49 degrees with some rain.

At midnight, Walmart stores will begin offering their Black Friday deals and the Tanger Outlets in Washington County will open. Jeff says if you're camped out there waiting for the doors to open, you'll be waiting in damp and dreary weather and 47 degrees. The Prime Outlets in Grove City also open at midnight and it will also be damp and dreary there, but a bit colder at 41 degrees.

At 3 a.m. Kohl's stores in the area open, followed by Target stores at 4 a.m. John visited the ones in Robinson and North Fayette respectively, and Jeff informed him that at 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. on Friday, it will be 37 degrees with light rain in both of those locations.

John says Black Friday really kicks into high gear at 5 a.m. on Friday. Best Buys will open throughout the region, along with The Beaver Valley Mall, The Mall at Robinson, Ross Park Mall and South Hills Village where John visited to ask the question: what will it be like in the South Hills at 5 a.m.? Jeff's answer: 35 degrees and brisk with a light shower.

Finally at 6 a.m. Friday, the rest of the malls open including Monroeville, Westmoreland and the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills. If you're shopping at any of those places, Jeff says it will be 35 and windy with the possibility of a flurry.

One footnote: John says while the malls in our area don't open until 5 a.m. or 6 a.m. on Black Friday, some of the retailers in those malls open earlier, like Macy's which will open its doors at 4 a.m.

Bottom line, if you're shopping early on Black Friday, check your opening times, take your umbrella and bundle up!
