Ram Unsung Hero Salute: Andy

CBS Radio and Ram are saluting America's Unsung Heroes. This week, we salute Andy of Emlenton, PA. Andy serves in the US Army Special Forces and was nominated by Michael of Mars.

Andy was age 7 when he lost his father and a brother two weeks apart. When he was 11 he lost his mother and was raised by his older brother Jim.

Andy graduated Gannon University earning a B.S. Degree in Education. He played college basketball for the Gannon Knights. In 1999 he entered the the US Army compeleting basic training, airborne, ranger and special forces training.

He served in Afghanistan doing two tours and was decorated earning a bronze star with a v for Valor. His units were ambushed numerous times where he was able to provide for the wounded and direct air support to secure the area and his unit.

He was honored in 2004 in the Army Times for earning the highest award for his rank for the intelligence he was able to gather and forward to his superiors.

Andy is now retired, married and the father of two sons. He is an amazing individual and has demonstrated the passion, courage and the will to succeed above and beyond what most can endure.
