Ed Bouchette On James Harrison Fines: “I Know Dan (Rooney) Is Hot About All This”

Ed Bouchette joined the Seibel and Starkey show on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN with Joe Starkey and Ken Laird filling in for John Seibel today to discuss James Harrison’s’ most recent $25,000 fine, this time coming for his hit on Bill Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Ed said he talked with Harrison’s’ agent yesterday before the fine came down, and James’ agent said he hoped James would not get fined because it will probably push him over the edge.

According to Ed, the Rooney’s relationship with Roger Goodell is still pretty good, but it must be strained after Art Rooney spoke out against the $75,000 fine the league hit James Harrison with.

To even further complicate things, Ed said that Dan Rooney is “hot about all this” and he is sure that Rooney has called him any number of times to address all these fines.

COME ON ROONEY’S GO GET GOODELL! HARRISON ROCKS!

    1. DaveH says:

Why can Roger Goodell fines Refs for making BAD Call. Refs are getting away with it.

      1. Joe Burdek says:

Refs work for the NFL. To fine them would be fining them selves. Refs are also only part timers who really don’t get a lot of playing time to improve. Such as NBA, NHL, etc. They are briefed before their game schedules with what to look for and how to react. Yes their eyes are on James and that’s why the ref already had his hand on the penalty flag. My plug: I have a eBay store called Pittsburgh Joe’s Pants N’at

    2. Joe Burdek says:

I’m sorry guys but this inept inconsistency officiating is ruining the game of football for all of us. It’s painly pathetic to watch. If Roger Ram Jet is behind these ludicrous game spoilers then the league needs to move forward before this turns into a absolute circus. The NFL needs a overhaul, I agree, and the adaption of a board with real team members present was a great idea by Hines. Google burdfrenzy

    3. Larry says:

If Fitzpatrick would have faked the pass, tucked the ball away and tried to run it would have likely been called a great tacklle. Harrison could not, in that instant assume anything in regards to the pass really happening or if a fake would have occurred. It was a great tackle and great, yet basic football play. Yes I am Pro-Steelers like so many, however; the rules have become skewed.

Do you think the refs will EVER call holding on a lineman tackling Harrison ever again? NOPE!

    4. Bob says:

Put dresses on the ones ,Harrison is not to hit

    5. Stephen M Magaro says:

Hello Steelers Nation, This thing with the fines on the Black and Gold is way wrong. You can see Harrision has made huge attempts to mo his head to the side, and hit in the “zone”.When the guy ducks or changes his body position after your about to tackle him,it”s to late to stop. They can punch Ben in the face but get baby fine.I would like someone to do that to Brady and see what happens. The Rooney’s should be sticking up for their players and football in general.Soon women can play and we can call it flag football.

  2. Roger Goodell says:

The NFL is becoming a joke!

    Thanks Roger Goodell!

I hope there is a lockout!

  3. Eric says:

Roger Goodell is a piece of s….!

    1. nanny says:

      You go Eric!!!!!!!!!

  4. SandyandWalt says:

Mr. Rooney needs to get Mr. Goodell in a room with the officials of the past 2 games, and play the video of holding James Harrison and ask why it is never called? Great defense by Ike Taylor (Penalty) but pushing our receiver in the back is OK. The BIG Question is why the inconsistency Mr. Gooddell?

  5. Marilyn says:

We should all give a $1 to pay for this latest fine for James Harrison.
Just think about the hugh number of members that belong to the Steeler Nation.!!!!

    1. John says:

I would give more than a dollar to help cover the fines. Can anyone set this up?

By the way – where does the money for all the fines go? Does it go to a charity that the NFL has? It better not even be used as a bonus for Roger.

  6. mark says:

this is getting out of hand they showed that play a few times i didn’t see harrison lead with the crown it seem they are out for him and the steelers. just think if any of the players from the 70’s and early 80’s would play now they would be broke now its greed. if i was harrison the next sack he should or could get just two hand tab and walk away. i understand they have to protect the shirts like brady and manning etc.

  7. Annette Baker says:

Goodell a loser always fining OUR TEAM HE NEEDS TO BE FIRED because he ,s never been fair on these dumb fines

  8. John says:

The Rooneys really need to have a sit down with Goodell and educate him on the sport of football. I REALLY hope they just forget the sit down and force Goodell out of office…but we all know that the Rooney family is a bit classier. The Rooney’s would not be one to use their power to have refs pick on a certain team giving them a record number of penalties and yards……(VERY noticable in the last two STEELER games Roger)

Harrison – if I had the money….all I would say is hit’em harder, faster, let them know that you are a PITTSBURGH STEELER….I would pay all fines…your salary whatever it took. DO NOT change your style and DO NOT quit…you will only let Goodell win by doing so.

To the STEELER DEFENSE……. you need to hit harder this week and every week after. Let every team know they have played the PITTSBURGH STEELERS. Make they have the STEELER logo show up on there bruises on Monday morning. Let the NFL know how defense is supposed to be played and DO NOT BACK DOWN.

  9. Coach T says:

ROGER IS ONE BIG DISTRACTION THIS YEAR.

  10. baxter says:

Good for him. Let me give my hard earned money to an overpaid athlete. Thats smart!

  11. Dragon says:

Someone with access to the video of the weeks games should build a montage of ALL the similar hits that weren’t fined and make a commercial out of it! Remember that hit that Hines took to the head? That wasn’t called or fined. It’s seeming more and more a bias, plain and simple.

  12. aversas says:

Rooney needs to step up to the plate, pay the fine, and start a rebellion against GODell. I’m sure all of the other players that were wronged, along with their teams and coaches would gladly support the movement, and hopefully get this fool out of power. He’s a greed little prick with too much power in his hands.

  13. James Eiler says:

I want to start a fund for the Steelers team. I think that all the fans would be willing to at least donate a $1 to cover all these fines and fines still to come. This is Steeler football and football in general. To bad we have a dictator as the head of the NFL. If you watch a replay of the play from beginning to end of the hit on Fitzpatrick the ref already had his hand on the flag… If this isn’t prejudgment then I dont know what is… Come on Steeler nation we have to unite of our team… We have to show Goodell that Steeler nation is not to be made a mockery of …

  14. nanny says:

Won’t it be lovely and sweet when goddell hands Harrison the super bowl trophy for being the mvp. If I was Harrison, I would plummet goddell right off of the podium. If I was Tomlin, I would turn the defense loose and flatten everybody.

  15. Donna says:

First I have watched the play numerous times and the ref had his hand on the flag even prior to the hit… Second I almost wish Harrison were a dirty player so that he could just drive Flacco so far into the ground and earn the fine for once!

  16. Joe says:

steelers should help him out before he cant afford to play anymore and Retires?!?!

  17. Marvin says:

Send your money to Heinz Field in his name. That’s what everyone else is doing. At least do it as a show of solidarity. We’ve got to get Der Fuhrer out of the league for “Good”!!!!

  18. Don Howard says:

I don’t know if this is a legitimate e-mail address or not, but here it goes as found on web. I think EVERY-ONE should flood this e-mail address with thier true thoughts about the NFL commissioner and the rest of the people responsible for levying the fines that are dished out. There are other fines levied to other players as well, but $125,000.00 for 3 hits is excessive. Floood the following address’s and make your point known that the Steeler Nation will help in any way possible. What he and the rest of the NFL is doing to the game is slowly becomming a flag football game. These players are paid ALOT of money and know what is expected during each game. They are paid ALOT more than Hockey players, and they don’t have the fights as in Hockey. Oh wait, I better keep my mouth shut, that might be next…

  19. BB says:

What putzes you “Steeler Nation” are. Before you give your $1 to Harrison, go into your job, tell your boss you’ll do things the way YOU want to, no matter what he says, & if you still have a job, then go ahead & give your dollar. If Harrison had kept his mouth shut & sucked it up after the first fine, that would’ve been the end of it. But, he stood there & said I want to hurt people, & I’m not going to change the way I play. Well, ten quit boo-hooing now big man.

    1. STEELERS FAN IN FLA says:

HEY BB MAKE SURE YOU READ MY RESPONSE TO YOU IN COMMENTS. YOU ARE SO MISINFORMED IT IS ALMOST COMICAL

  20. joseph DeZort says:

How do you fine a player for a hit like that and then you go onto punish players who throw fist in the middle of the game the same way. The NFL is a joke

  21. Matt says:

ity is a sad day when all the fans in the leage wants there to be a lock out
    Thanks Roger Goodell!

the NFL is not a joke Roger is…….

  22. R. Wood says:

I think James Harrison should be sent to the Roger Goodell School for titty blocking and arm tackling. Just think they can bill this Sunday Night’s game as “Some Enchanting Evening” starring the Pittsburgh Seelgirls….can anybody say show tunes? Come on fans speak up!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. R. Wood says:

you missed the point. He plays the game the way we were taught and now its like Lucy moving the ball on Charley Brown. Ghey? that would be you.

  23. STEELERS FAN IN FLA says:

HEY BB WHY DONT YOU DO YOUR JOB TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY AND THEN LET YOUR BOSS JUST TAKE MONEY OUT OF YOUR CHECK FOR SOMETHING YOU DID NOT DO AND SEE HOW THAT MAKES YOU FEEL YOU FREAKING DIRTBAG. SO MANY ILLEGAL HITS AND BOGUS PENALTIES ARE BEING CALLED ON STEELERS IT IS A JOKE. ALSO BB YES HARRISON SAID HE WANTS TO HURT PLAYERS AND RIGHT AFTER HE SAID HE NEVER I REPEAT YOU DUMB ASS NEVER WANTS TO INJURE ANYONE AND THERE IS THE DIFFERENCE YOU MORON. HE WANTS PLAYERS TO KNOW THERE IS A PRICE OF PHYSICAL PAIN TO PLAY FOOTBALL, BUT ONCE AGAIN YOU COMPLTE IDIOT HE DOES NOT WANT TO INJURE ANYONE. SO BB LISTEN UP NOT SURE WHAT TEAM YOU ROOT FOR BUT IF IT IS THE STEELERS PLEASE ROOT FOR SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE AS STEELERS FANS WE JUST WANT YOU TO GO AWAY BECAUSE YOU CANT FIX STUPID AND THATS WHAT YOUR SORRY ASS SEEMS TO BE. GO STEELERS. M.D.

    1. Caps Lock Stuck says:

Your Caps Lock button is on. Other than that it was an intelligent post.

  24. Sacha says:

I still want to know why no one was fined for the hit that caused Hines Ward’s concussion. There was no talk about it after the game and we all know why- Patriots don’t get fined. And Woodley’s hit on Tom Brady’s beautiful body, that needed fined? I don’t think so. The favoritism needs to stop. The refs need to start calling some penalties against the Patriots and quit protecting their precious Tom Brady. As Jack Lambert said., put a dress on him. Every week you could take out bets on how many penalties/ fines the Steelers get. It’s way out of control. Let the players play. So what if Harrison plays to hurt people? This isn’t golf.

  25. Mark D says:

Thanks for word on Caps lock, however i left it on so BB would be able to see it clearly after he left such an uninformed statement. I truly appreciate your comment on it being somewhat intelligent. By the way was your blog sent from staff or are you a Steelers fan also. Merry Christmas to everyone back in Pittsburgh. I have a saying I live by ” You may take the boy out of Pittsburgh, but you can never take Pittsburgh out of the boy” I have been in Florida since 1981 and its all aboout Pittsburgh to me.

  26. Honey L.Malik says:

Praying for this all to go aay ,but logically it won’t so just pray for all to go well on Sunday against Ravens. God Bless America ! It’s unbelievable that the greatest America sports has gone to the dogs.

  27. H says:

How can two players punch each other in the face, and not get suspended? What about the whole “Conduct Policy” of the NFL? Isn’t that why they suspended Ben? How’s come Favre never got suspended for texting pictures of his genitals? Somethings got to be done! This is a joke!

  28. Bob Roberts says:

the nfl is becoming a joke. they don’t like the way steelers jack people up. first the hines ward rule now all these fines. how about we get rid of below the knee blocks on our defensive guys. no cut blocks allowed to even out the rule that won’t let you hit the QB

  29. DC SLIDEWAYS says:

MARK D since 1981 no manatee in florida has been safe from your perverted pastime. PAY ANY STEELER FINE??? SICK KIDS;PEOPLE LOSING JOBS AND HOMES;INJURED VETS; PAY THIS THUG’S FINE???

  30. TomBrady'sBaldingHead says:

    NFL = Not For Long,
While the Steeler’s brand of football is being punished,
Goodoll will protect Brady and Manning,
And continue to take defense out of the game,
ruining the STEELER BRAND of FOOTBALL!
What once was a tough-man’s game now is metrosexual yuppie sport
    Bllaaaaaaaaaaahh
