Pirates Shopping Around At Winter Meetings

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to make some moves at Major League Baseball's Winter Meetings in Orlando, Fla.

According to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates are shopping around utility player Ryan Doumit, who averaged .251 with 13 home runs and 45 RBIs last season.

Doumit, an outfielder and backup catcher, is due $5.1 million in 2011 and the Pirates don't want to commit that much money to a part-time player.

Doumit lost his starting position when the Pirates traded for Chris Snyder at the trade deadline last season.

The Pirates are confident they can get a straight-up, no cash trade for Doumit. If the Pirates do not trade Doumit, General Manager Neal Huntington said Doumit will be the team's starting right fielder.

Huntington and the Pirates are also pursuing pitching at the Winter Meetings. The Pirates have their eyes on three players; including free-agents Scott Olsen and Jeremy Accardo. Huntington is also considering a trade for Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Kenshin Kawakami.
