DEP Checks Westmoreland Co. Hospital For Biohazards

JEANNETTE (KDKA) - The Department of Environmental Protection searched a former Westmoreland County hospital for biohazards Wednesday.

In October, DEP agents searched the biohazard room outside the old Monsour Medical Center in Jeannette and found various hazardous substances.

During a follow-up inspection in November, agents found that the hazardous substances had been removed from the biohazard room, but that there were signs of vandalism to the main hospital building.

They are now concerned that vandals could get their hands on hazardous chemicals, infectious waste or old X-ray machines that remain in the building.

They are concerned that the vandals could put themselves or others in danger if the substances are handled inappropriately.
