Officials: 1 Dead In Armstrong Co. Explosion

ELDERTON (KDKA) - State police say one person has died following a vehicle explosion this morning in Armstrong County.

It happened along Route 210 at West Penn Energy in Elderton. The company provides support services for the natural gas drilling industry.

According to officials with state police, the vehicle reportedly exploded on West Penn Energy private property.

According to a statement from Michael J. Zentz, the president of West Penn Energy Services, LLC, one employee was injured and another died in the accident.

The statement reads: "Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with the families and friends of the lost and injured today. Our company is working to ensure these families have all the resources and support they need during this very difficult time. We are fully cooperating and working closely with the State Police and other officials to determine the cause of today's tragic incident."

A man was using a propane torch to thaw a frozen water pipe on a truck when it blew up. It sent him flying more than 60-feet.

Officials say the blast appears to be accidental.
