Peak: Next Coach Will Be Younger, With Proven Success

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Chris Peak of joined the Fan Morning Show to talk about the resignation of Dave Wannstedt.

Peak suspects the culmination of all the losses over the past two years and not winning the Big East to get a BCS bowl berth was Steve Pederson’s final straw.

There are rumors out there that Wannstedt wants to coach in the Compass Bowl. However, Peak doesn’t see how this will work as Pederson wants to get another coach in to begin recruiting and setting up the program for next year. He thinks it will make for a very awkward situation within the football program.

There have been reports that two recruits have changed their minds about committing to Pitt and others are taking a wait-and-see approach to find out who the new coach and assistants will be.

Peak speculates the new coach will be a younger guy, who has some proven success at the college level, a current head coach or coordinator.

Pitt is one of those programs that just can’t seem to take it to the next level.

i don’t know who I’d like to see them hire, I really don’t. Wannstedt could recruit, but he really was not successful as a coach.

  3. The Polish Hammer says:

I can’t picture Wannstedt staying at the office past 5pm or up all night dreaming up new schemes and plays. Maybe a younger and more ambitious coach is just what Pitt needs at this point in the long term program rebuild.
