Lemieux To Return To Ice For Alumni Game

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Mario Lemieux is returning to the ice on Dec. 31, 2010.

On the last day of the year, former members of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals will face off against each other in the Winter Classic Alumni Game at Heinz Field.

Penguins alumni scheduled to play in the game include Hall of Famers Bryan Trottier, Ron Francis and Paul Coffey. A full roster has yet to be announced, but the recently retired Bill Guerin is also expected to lace up his skates.

“We all grew up playing on outdoor rinks, so we’re really looking forward to having this chance to skate on the Winter Classic rink at Heinz Field,” Lemieux said in a press release. “There is so much history between the Penguins and Capitals and it will be good to get together and see friends on both benches.”

The Capitals will be captained by Peter Bondra. They have not yet announced a roster.

The game will start at 9:30 a.m. The $25 tickets will include admission to the Penguin’s practice session at 11:30 a.m. Seats will be limited to 10,000.

Tickets will be available for purchase on Friday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.
