WV Tech Beats Ohio State-Mansfield By 100 Points
MONTGOMERY, W.Va. (KDKA/AP) — The West Virginia Tech Golden Bears beat their winless opponents, the Ohio State-Mansfield Mavericks, by 100 points on Sunday, 157-57.
The Golden Bears shot 70 percent from the field and had four players with more than 20 points. They led the Mavericks by 60 points, 83-23 at halftime.
The Golden Bears didn't come close to the NAIA record for margin of victory, which is held by Oklahoma Christian with a 117 point win over Southwest Assemblies of God in 1981.
The NCAA Division I record for the largest margin of victory is also 117 points. That's held by Long Island University with a 179-62 win over Medgar Evers in 1997.
The largest margin of victory within collegiate basketball belongs to the NCAA Division III Lincoln University Lions of Lincoln, Pa., with a 123 point win over the Ohio State-Marion Scarlet Wave in 2006.
WV Tech scored 130 of their 157 points in the paint and out-rebounded the Mavericks by 48.
