Nursery Donates New Tree To California Borough
CALIFORNIA BOROUGH (KDKA) - A local nursery is pledging to provide a new Christmas tree today to California Borough in Washington County.
Jannine Metal, the head of the Borough's Recreation Authority, says she received a call from a local nursery who wanted to donate a tree to be put in Rotary Park.
The nursery wanted to remain anonymous.
Authorities say someone went to Rotary Park, which is adjacent to Route 88, and cut down the town's official Christmas tree for this holiday season.
Metal said that the six-foot blue spruce was cut down, dragged across the parking lot and then thrown over a hillside and into a creek bed.
Police are still investigating who cut down the original tree. The new tree is expected to be delivered this afternoon.
