Person Of Interest In Custody After Police Pursuit
EAST FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Police have taken a person of interest into custody after a police pursuit, crash and a gunshot was fired overnight in Armstrong County.
State police say it happened around 1:30 a.m. in East Franklin Township.
According to state police, the pursuit started when a Kittanning Borough police patrolman tried to pull over a 1999 Mercury Cougar for a traffic stop.
Authorities say the vehicle went through a stop light and continued across the Kittanning Bridge, onto Tartown Road and slammed into a tree on Adrian Road.
State police report that the person driving the vehicle got out after the crash and went into a nearby wooded area. When the officer got to the scene and approached the vehicle, officials say a shot was fired. The officer was not hit.
Local and state police were then called to the scene and authorities say a shotgun was found in the woods.
Also, while searching the area, police say they discovered 37-year-old Tobias Allen of Mayport "hiding in an administrative office trailer."
Allen is being held in the Armstrong County Jail on a probation violation. Investigators say he is being considered a person of interest in the case.
State police are continuing to investigate.
Authorities say the vehicle involved was owned by a woman in New Bethlehem.
