Pirates Make Minor Managerial Moves
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates made some coaching staff moves on Wednesday.
The Pirates promoted P.J. Forbes to manager of Altoona after the team fired former manager Matt Walbeck. Walbeck was abruptly fired two weeks after Altoona won the championship in the Eastern League.
Former Major League First Base Coach Carlos Garcia will take over Forbes' old job as manager at Bradenton.
Frank Kremblas will become the teams coordinator of instruction, replacing Jeff Banister.
Dean Treanor, formerly the pitching coach, moves up to manager of Triple-A Indianapolis.
Dave Turgeon, previously the pitching coach at Virginia Tech, will manage Class-A State College.
Gary Robinson, State College's manager last season, moves up to Class-A West Virginia.
