Girl Critically Injured After TV Falls In Hazelwood Home

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A 2-year-old girl remains in critical condition today after police say a television set fell on to her while she was in her Hazelwood home.

Pittsburgh police say the girl suffered a serious head injury and was taken to UPMC Children's Hospital for treatment.

The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. in the 5600-block of Second Avenue.

According to police, the girl's 34-year-old mother, two of her daughters and her 15-year-old son were in the home when the incident happened.

"The TV was sitting on top of a dresser, which was next to the bed. We're not sure exactly who, if anybody was in the room at the time of the incident. We're still trying to determine that," said Lt. Kevin Kraus, of the Pittsburgh Police Department. "But it appears that, it's quite possible that the 2-year-old caused the TV to fall on herself."

Investigators say the 15-year-old boy found his sister after hearing a large crashing sound in the bedroom. His mother and the two other girls were reportedly sleeping in another bedroom when it happened.

Police say the boy pulled the television off of his sister before the paramedics arrived at the scene.

"At this point in the investigation, it appears to be accidental," said Lt. Kraus. "Obviously, we haven't concluded our investigation, but we certainly want to find out the cause and what the circumstances are related to the incident."
