QB Rob Bolden To Transfer From PSU

STATE COLLEGE (KDKA/AP) - Happy Valley isn't so happy for Penn State quarterback Rob Bolden.

Bolden's father has told multiple media outlets that his son will be transferring to another Division I team next season.

Bolden started the first seven games of the season, but was sidelined after a concussion on Oct. 23 against Minnesota. Former walk-on Matt McGloin was named the starting quarterback in place of Bolden and the highly touted back-up Kevin Newsome.

In the seven games McGloin started, he passed for 1,548 yards on 215 attempts with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Five of those nine interceptions occurred in the team's 37-24 loss to Florida in the Outback Bowl.

Paterno and his son, who is the quarterbacks coach, will speak with Bolden to try and convince him stay.

If Bolden decides to bolt, that will leave the quarterback position wide open as JoePa enters his 46th year as head coach.

Besides McGloin and Newsome, Penn State will look to redshirt freshman Paul Jones from Sto-Rox High School as the starter for next season.
