Pirates Trade RHP Martinez To Indians For Cash
CLEVELAND (KDKA/AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded right-hand reliever Joe Martinez to the Cleveland Indians for cash.
The Pirates acquired Martinez from the San Francisco Giants at the trade deadline for Javier Lopez. Last year, Martinez pitched in five games with a total of 8 2/3 innings for the Pirates. Martinez gave up 11 hits, five runs and struck out six. He had no decisions and a 3.12 ERA with the Pirates.
Martinez does have two minor league options remaining, which gives the Indians the ability to send him to the minors without exposing him to other teams.
