Flowers Leads Way As WVU Routs Providence 93-63

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (KDKA/AP) - John Flowers and the West Virginia Mountaineers topped the Providence Friars 93-63 Thursday night.

The Mountaineers dominated the Friars in every aspect of the game; WVU out-rebounded Providence 52-47, had nine blocked shots, 10 steals and forced 15 turnovers.

West Virginia was led by forward Flowers as he recorded 24 points, six rebounds, five assists, five blocks and three steals. The 24 points was the first time in his collegiate career that Flowers broke the 20 point mark.

Teammate Kevin Jones had a double-double, scoring 19 points with 13 rebounds.

West Virginia had three other players in double figures, Casey Mitchell and Deniz Kilicli scored 14 and Darryl Bryant had 12 points.

The victory marks West Virginia's seventh consecutive win over Providence, and its 11th in their last 12 meetings.

The Mountaineers extended their record to 11-4 and 3-2 in the Big East. Next up for the Mountaineers will be the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday at home.
