West Virginia Beats No. 8 Purdue 68-64

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (KDKA/AP) —Bob Huggins and the West Virginia Mountaineers found their offense late in the second half to the beat No. 8 Purdue 68-64 on Sunday.

The Mountaineers were led by forward Kevin Jones with 17 points. Jones scored nine of his 17 points during an 18-6 run in the second half.

Jones also recorded 9 rebounds and 1 assist and received help from three of his teammates who scored in double digits. John Flowers scored 15 points, Darryl Bryant added 12 points, and Joe Mazzulla recorded 10 points.

The win over Purdue gives West Virginia (12-4) their fourth straight win and second straight win over a ranked team in the past two weeks. The Mountaineers beat then No. 13 Georgetown 65-59 earlier this month.

The win could vault the Mountaineers back into the AP Top 25 rankings.

The Boilermakers (15-3) now have their first losing streak of the season after also falling 70-67 at Minnesota on Thursday night. Purdue lost despite shooting 16 of 30 (53 percent) from the floor in the second half and 48 percent overall.

Both teams will have their next game this Wednesday with West Virginia facing Marshall and Purdue taking on Penn State.
