Plenty Of Fun Planned Leading Up To Big Game

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Steelers fans can gear up for Sunday’s AFC Championship showdown against the New York Jets with several pre-game festivities going on all weekend long.

The party kicks off on Friday as Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato have declared a “Black & Gold Day.”

A “Ground the Jets Rally” will be held that day at noon around the Terrible Tree in the courtyard of the Allegheny County Courthouse. There will be live music, food, face-painting, giveaways and a trivia contest.

Fans can also continue to contribute to the black and gold decorations on the Terrible Tree during the festivities.

Anyone planning to attend is being asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

The fun continues later Friday evening over on the North Shore with the Steelers Championship Party Weekend at Stage AE featuring local band, The Clarks.

The doors open at 5 p.m. Live music is set to start at 7 p.m. with performances by Gene The Werewolf and Tres Lads. Then, The Clarks are scheduled to take the stage at 10 p.m.

Tickets cost $20 and are available for purchase through Ticketmaster.com.

On Saturday, fans can head back over to Stage AE to get fired up with a free Championship warm-up party. The doors will once again open at 5 p.m. with DJ J-Spin providing the musical entertainment and several Steelers alumni on hand to sign autographs.

Pittsburgh native and star of the CBS comedy series, “Mike & Molly,” Billy Gardell, will take the stage at 10 p.m. to wrap up the festivities on Saturday.

  2. bill says:

i turn on the news to here the news not 10 minutes of news an 50 minutes of steelers every hour

    1. Steeler Fan says:

Bill, Go elsewhere then. There are ample outlets to “HEAR” (Proper use of the word) the news that you want. Like it or not, the Steelers ARE news in Pittsburgh. Right or wrong, it’s fact. Lots of cities would love to have such a boost to their local economy.

Change the channel if you don’t like it.

  4. Charles Delehanty says:

Hey, I can’t get enough of Steelers mania. Just think, the Steelers are the most successful NFL franchise over the past twenty years. They have played in 4 of the last 7 AFC championship games, won two super bowls. Who else has done that, including the four previous super bowl wins.

I lived in Washington D C area before the Redskins won the super bowl. Then moved to Boston before the Pats won their trophies. But it was real juicy when finally I lived in a town which won the super bowl. Unbelievable.

And to think that the Steelers are now favored to win the Super Bowl this year. They are 3.5 point favorites over the Jets.

    Go Steelers.

  5. Debbie says:

  6. Albert says:

  7. bill says:

    1. Dave says:

I hope that you get a life Bill

  8. John J. Johnson says:

    3.5 favorites isn’t very good. I believe the Pat’s were 10 point fav’s.

    But…….The math is good….
    Ben = 7
Ben has been playing = 7 years
    troys number subtracted = 7
    Rashard number added = 7
    Harrison number subtracted = 7
This would be the Steelers = 7th Super Bowl

    7 looks like our number!!

    1. John J. Johnson says:

      Troys number added…opps

      1. Steelers says:

Good Stuff, what do you think Bill?

  16. TJS12 says:

I think it’s pretty big deal to talk on the news about an event that is bringing $19 million to the city. GO STEELERS!!!!

  17. SHARI says:

bill, not sure what you do for fun, but in pittsburgh, there ain’t nuttin like a good rumble-GO STEELERS!!!

  18. Caleb Tichon says:

The Steelers victory tonight in my mind is a great way to stick it to the NFL for all of the fines, penalties, and rule changing in the middle of the season. Roger Goodel had it in for the Steelers since the begging of the season because he thought Big Ben got of his pre-season charges to easily. This is why many NFL players and staff “can’t wait” for a lockout.
