PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) – As the Steelers prepare for Sunday’s AFC Championship game at Heinz Field, some of the players talked with the personalities form 93-7 The Fan about how they’re feeling going into the big game.
Steelers beat reporter Jon Burton caught up with running back Ike Redman after practice yesterday. Redman said he is ready for the opportunity to help the team advance to the Super Bowl.
Redman shares his thoughts on being so close to a Super Bowl appearance and how the veterans have helped the rookies prepare for the championship game.
Recapping the Steelers win over the Ravens, Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey told Jim Colony that he’s impressed with the leadership of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
Pouncey also talked about the contribution he and the other rookies are having on this veteran team.
While some players have been getting requests for tickets to Sunday’s championship game, Pouncey said no one outside his “tight circle” of friends has hit him up for tickets.
But if his former college coach, Urban Meyer, wanted tickets, Pouncey said he’d make sure to was in the stands this weekend.
Veteran wide receiver Hines Ward told Burton that the Steelers are “singly focused on the Jets.”
The last time the Steelers played in a championship game, they lost; but the team has been a contender year after year. Ward gives a lot of credit to the Steelers organization for bringing in “selfless” players.
Now in his 13th season with the Steelers, Ward said he knows what an achievement it is to reach the Super Bowl. If his team beats the jets on Sunday, Ward says he plans to celebrate with the fans in the stands.
