Police Continue Investigation Into New Castle Deaths

NEW CASTLE (KDKA/AP) - Authorities continued their investigation Saturday after three family members were discovered dead in a New Castle home.

The bodies of a 12-year-old boy, his mother and his grandmother were found in their home Friday afternoon.

The Lawrence County Coroner has identified them as 40-year-old Ljuba Novosel, her son Tomislav Novosel, and 81-year-old Anka Denk.

The chief of police said preliminary indications are that the three each died of a single gunshot wound to the head, and appeared to have been dead for several days.

He says officials are trying to determine whether it was a double murder-suicide. Authorities said that there was no sign anyone tried to break in.

According to the Lawrence County Coroner, Tomislav Novosel and Denk were killed in their beds. Also, the coroner reports that Ljuba Novosel's body was found in a downstairs stairwell with a gun underneath her.

Concerned neighbors called police Friday after the family's cat came over for food.

The investigation continues.
