Hazelwood Shooting Victim Identified

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man is dead after a shooting in Hazelwood.

Police and neighbors were startled to see a Chevy Tahoe flipped on its roof at the corner of Marsden and Chatsworth Streets just before noon Tuesday.

Jabbar Fridia, 27, was pronounced dead at UPMC Mercy Hospital. Investigators say it appears he was ambushed at the top of Marsden Street where he was confronted by at least one gunman. He was shot four times in the chest.

"He either drifted or accelerated at a high rate to speed down the hill and crashed into the house on the corner and obviously flipped over on its roof," Pittsburgh Police Lt. Kevin Kraus said.

Crime scene investigators believe the driver was there by chance or was called to that location. Police say there were no witnesses.

"He was a good kid, you know, guy had SSI because he only had one leg," Akinyele Scott, a neighbor said. "He had a prosthesis – whatever – and I just seen him this morning at the store."
