Pitt Receives 5 More Verbal Commitments

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – National Signing Day is two days away, but Todd Graham and the Pitt Panthers have received verbal commitments from multiple players.

One new additions is linebacker Devin Cook from Beaver Falls.

Cook is 6-feet-4-inches tall and weighs 230 pounds. He’s a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and is ranked 38th in the state of Pennsylvania.

Pitt also added a relatively unknown recruit from Florida. Over the weekend, Pitt received a verbal commitment from Fort Meade, Fla. wide receiver Ronald Jones. Jones is 5-feet-8-inches tall, weighs 165 pounds and runs a 4.4 second 40.

Cornerback Jason Frimpong is 5-feet-11-inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He’s from Irving, Texas and decided to follow Graham from Tulsa to Pitt. Frimpong, a two-star recruit by Rivals.com, committed to Tulsa in mid-December, but changed his commitment after Graham went on a recruiting trip over the weekend.

Frimpong runs a 4.4 second 40 and played running back and wide receiver during his senior year. He ran for 298 yards and five touchdowns on 64 carries. He also had 33 receptions for 459 yards and two touchdowns.

Chris Peak, of PantherLair.com, is also reporting that Pitt has received commitments from teammates out of Orlando, Fla.  Outside linebacker LaQuentin Smith and safety Roderick Ryles will come to Pitt from Dr. Philips High School. Smith is 6-feet-one-inch tall and is a three-star recruit. He runs a 4.6 second 40.

Smith is a highly-touted recruit. He ranks 35th in the nation among safeties and is the 92nd best player to come out of the state of Florida according to Rivals.com

Good thing he let Lafayette Pitts walk, cause he blows…No Heart…Kid would get tackled in the backfield by a 140lbs NA kid. That was a ridiculous display for a so called Div. 1 recruit. Bye, bye Mr. Pitts!

  2. Lerch says:

Yeah…Pitt doesn’t need anybody that soesn’t want to be there. One of Wan’s marginal area recruits. He’ll love it in New Jersey. He’ll be at IUP in 2 years

  3. Common Sense says:

Nice to see a coach that realizes that there is more talent available away from Western PA. A positive sign thus far that the last regime did not understand.

  4. Phil Glasser says:

…and you guys all look silly now, since both of the Pitts men are now signed on at Pitt!!

  5. Lerch says:

He wised up…Pgh kid wouldn’t like New Jersey. He’ll get a better chance at Pitt. As for being silly…not sure either is a top recruit. We can only hope so. You have to be able to recruit in Florida and Texas for the top dogs….
