Troy Polamalu Voted Defensive Player Of The Year

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- Steelers safety Troy Polamalu has been named Defensive Player of the Year.

The distinction was given by the Associated Press. He beat out Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews for the honor.

Polamalu received 17 votes – two more than Matthews to get the nod. The award is voted on by 50 members of the media who cover the NFL.

Polamalu becomes the sixth Steeler to win the award. He had seven interceptions this season along with 63 tackles, but made his mark with big plays. In a late-season victory at Baltimore, his leaping tackle forced a fumble that set up the winning touchdown.

That victory catapulted the Steelers to the AFC North title. Now, they are in the Super Bowl - against Matthews' Packers.
