Local People Offer Early Reviews On Super Bowl Ads

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- For some, the best part of the Super Bowl isn't the game or even the halftime show; instead, it's all about the commercials.

They're the ads that so many wait for all year long and with the big game now just days away, some sneak previews are making the rounds.

With Troy Polamalu on the field and Betty White off of it, this year's crop of Super Bowl ads is already getting some early reviews.

"They're my favorite. I can't wait for the ads," said Ginny Wauthier, of Bridgeville. "This year, we have a bonus. We have the Steelers."

We all have our favorite Super Bowl ads in history, whether it's the Budweiser frogs or Mean Joe Greene's classic spot. But, are any of this year's ads worthy of that spot in television history?

KDKA's Jim Lokay took an iPad out to find out what some local people think.

First up is an ad from the job website, CareerBuilder.com. "I got a meeting! Stuck between a job and a hard place?" proclaims the commercial.

"I like it. It's entertaining," says John Beck, of Steubenville, Ohio. "I don't know if I'd buy the product, but I certainly enjoy the ad."

Doritos also has a big ad buy lined up for this Sunday. However, some local people were finding their commercials unpleasant.

"It's funny, but… I didn't like the hand lickin' and stuff. It's gross," said one person.

"Well, that's awkward," added Christian Hewlett, of Robinson. "A little of an awkward ad, I'd say."

Meanwhile, Snickers is just offering just a tease of their spot.

"I thought it was an ad for a Caterpillar," said one person.

There's also a new one from Homeaway.com. "We need more room! Kids! Come on!" says the ad. But two local people disagreed on whether or not they liked the ad.

So, while there is a difference of opinion, one local guy says his philosophy this Sunday will be simple.

"If it's good, I'll watch it," said Harold Siegel, Sheraden. "If it's no good, I'll get a beer or something."
