Local Man Returns Home From Egypt

By Ralph Iannotti

SLIPPERY ROCK (KDKA) — A Butler County man is back home in Slippery Rock after his first trip to Egypt.

Jim Atwell, 65, told KDKA-TV that the first couple of weeks went as scheduled, but the last few days were harrowing.

Atwell, a history buff, went to Egypt after he met Kerrie Guy, an Australian woman, on Facebook. She lives in Egypt, speaks Arabic and works as an Egyptian tour guide.

Guy suggested he visit Egypt and last month he made the trip. He couldn’t have imagined that he’d end up in the middle of the turmoil now unfolding there.

Toward the end of his stay late last week, he says he was at the home of Guy’s friend in the outskirts of Cairo. Atwell says the friend stayed up all night with guns and sticks to deter looters.

Atwell says it was hard to get to the airport because of the curfew and lack of taxis. On his way to the airport, he saw torched high-rises and burned out cars along the way.

Atwell said he’d like to go back to Egypt as early as this fall once things settle down.

    1. Someone Who Cares says:

Apparently you and I cared enough to read it, but I’m sure his brother, sister, son, daughter, his grandchildren, his friends, and anyone with a heart cares!

At least he came back. I know many people from Europe whom are there on vacation and are so stubborn that they don’t want to go home.

He met her on Facebook? Sounds like a scam to me.

Yes Jim made it home safely . Yet he always knew he would even as we approached Cairo unsure of how we would get him to the airport or if he would have a flight waiting for him…
Faith and inner knowing are amazing tools in life to work with..
I know I am meant to stay in Egypt.
I know I am exactly where i am meant to be in each moment of my being as long a I trust my spirit to lead me.
And I know too that Jim will return.
Egypt when embraced at a soul level welcomes you home time after time.
Egypt has a heart that pulses Love to all who allow their hearts to beat in time with hers.
By the way if caring about Peace Life and Humanity is a scam then I plead guilty..
Peace and Love to Jim and All
