Police To Release New Information In Hotel Stabbing

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - There is new information today on the stabbing of a newlywed in a hotel elevator earlier this week.

Allegheny County police held a news conference this afternoon to release new details in the case.

Police say a man was captured on surveillance video after attacking a woman Sunday night inside the Hyatt at Pittsburgh International Airport.

Investigators say they have now identified the suspect as 28-year-old Michael Furman, of Hancock County, W. Va.

Authorities say the woman was on her honeymoon when a man got into an elevator with her, tried to wrestle her to the floor and then stabbed her in the thigh.

She was not seriously injured in the incident.

Police say another woman, who also reported having an encounter with the suspect, helped them in identifying him.

According to officials, he gave that woman his phone number, which police were able to trace to his aunt's home.

Authorities continue to search for Furman. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is being asked to contact Allegheny County police.
