Sharky’s Café In Latrobe Hosts Pre-Super Bowl Party

LATROBE (KDKA) — There were pre-Super Bowl parties going on all across the region Saturday night as excited Steelers fans get even more pumped up for the game.

At Sharky’s Café in Latrobe, fans were singing, cheering, chanting and twirling their Terrible Towels in anticipation of the big game Sunday in Texas.

Latrobe is home to St. Vincent College where the Steelers always start the football season with training camp in the summer.

“We went out and saw them this past summer,” said fan Cari Whipple. “I actually met Troy Polamalu in person at the gas station right across the street. It was a pretty neat experience.”

Fans were already watching the Super Bowl tonight; but it was Super Bowl XL, the win over the Seattle Seahawks. They could hardly wait for Sunday night.

“Big time Steeler fan,” said Craig Huska. “I’ll be watching the whole game; going in to work a little late on Monday.”

On Super Bowl Sunday, Sharky’s is expecting a couple hundred more people than they would for a Super Bowl that the Steelers are not in.

So, the black and gold’s presence in this game is only good news for the bar and the workers, who get another days pay and a fun time.

“It’s fantastic; we’ll be packed all day tomorrow,” said Traci Shumaker, of Sharky’s Café. “Everybody will be up here trying to get the first seat for the big game. It’s just fantastic; we’ll be busy all day.”

I beg to differ, Julie – I am an East Coaster transplanted to Pittsburgh 30 years ago, and there isn’t a friendlier, nicer city in the country. The Steelers have the finest tradition in football, in the sense that they play hard football, keep their heads on straight, and don’t put on airs. What planet are you from?

  2. Bob Duffy says:

I am from Cleveland and am a Cleveland Brown’s fan. Despite the Steelers loss, I think they have a great organization and Pittsburgh is a great city with great people. I have friends who live in Pittsburgh and would never let a football rivalry come between us. I can only hope that the Browns can emulate the Steelers success. I have always enjoyed my visits to Pittsburgh. I also try to keep professional football and the Cleveland – Pittsburgh rivalry in perpective. Both cities share a lot in common, with the exception of the success of their sports teams. Great season Steelers!
