Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Steelers beat writer Ed Bouchette had his usual Tuesday appointment with Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan’s Vinnie & Cook! Ed sorts through the Steelers’ offseason “to-do” list, and tells us which Steeler free agent is most likely to go. He also tells us if Bruce Arians may retire this offseason, and why Nnamdi Asomugha probably won’t be wearing a Steeler uniform anytime soon.

Woodley is the Steelers best defender over next 5 years. If they let him go they are fools.

Woodley is amazing both on and off the field. He has done so well for us with limited pay. We need to pay him and not let him out on the market. He is also amazing with the fans. He interacts with the fans more than any other player. We love “the Beast”. Please, Please, Please tell Colbert, Tomlin and Mr. Rooney that we want him to stay!

To me, the #1 priority signing without question is Lamar Woodley. His intensity and passion for football (and the Steelers in particular), along with his relationship with the fans makes him a great fit for this city and this team. I just hope he wants to come back. Hopefully he won’t want insane money because as we all know, the Steelers don’t go that way.

Now, that being said, the Steelers are in desperate need at cornerback. With or without Woodley, if the team stands pat with what they have it’s unlikely a Super Bowl XLVI appearance is possible. So, maybe I should say the TWO #1 priorities are: 1A) Cornerback and 1B) Woodley.

THEY WOULD BE LETTING ONE OF THE BEST L-BACKERS IN THE LEAGUE GO, WE NEED TO RESIGN HIM ASAP. KEEP OUR LINEBACKING CORE IN TACT!

  • Jeff

My fear is that New England will throw big $ at Lamar Woodley even though they’ve had a bad track record signing big ticket free agents LB’s like Adalius Thomas. Living here in MASS I have to listen to Boston sports radio when on the road and they are killing Belichick for not having had drafted a big time edge pass rusher to this point when they play a 3 / 4. Seeing # 56 wearing a flying Elvis on his helmet would make me hurl!!!!

Elijah:: He’s going nowhere we have the best front office in the NFL.eLIJAH

Hey if the Steelers decide to let Lamar Woodley go in free agency, most likely unless he goes to a team like Green Bay or Arizona where they are gona use him the same way the Steelers used him, he will Not be Effective. Its been proven time after time. But I agree the Steelers would be stupid not to Resign him . . Woodley that is.
