Missing 10-Year-Old Boy Found Safe

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A missing 10-year-old boy was found safe after he did not show up for school Tuesday morning.

Police were searching the area between Chauncey Drive and the Head Start located at 2250 Centre Avenue.

The boy left home to go to school, but never arrived and family members did not know where he was.

As it turns out, the boy was skipping school and his mother found him shortly before noon.

Where is the Amber Alert? Our children need protected!!!!!!!!! This MUST STOP!

    1. Dave says:

Amber Alerts are only used in child abduction cases so as to minimize the number of ‘false alarms’ for runaways, kids skipping school (like this one), etc.

      1. Lori says:

They announced that the police were searching for a “missing” boy. They didn’t mention that they knew he might be skipping school. An alert should be issued for any child listed as missing.

I agree. Missing at , what, 8am? Found before noon? Anyone could have had him anywhere in that 4 hours, if this were an actual abduction. Unbelievable…

  2. Dave says:

Lori, I’m just quoting the Amber Alert guidelines. They state that Amber Alerts are for abducted children. There are (based on some reports) of 50,000 students skipping school any given day. If that was distributed evenly among all states that would be 1,000 students a day…meaning 1,000 Amber Alerts per state. That’s why they only issue alerts for abducted children under the age of 17.

jeez, skipping school at ten years old? whoa!

@ Dave, yes, if people would actually read the link you provided they would realize that an Amber Alert is not appropriate in this situation. Skipping School at 10 years of age tells me that someone AT HOME is not doing a good job of explaining and/or enforcing basic good behavior. .

Where did this child think he was going besides school and who would let a 10 yr. old skip school at there home. Wonder exactly just where did they find the child. Thank God that the child was found and is now safely at home with his mother. Time to sit him down and have a good talking to.

  6. RUSerious says:

They didn’t know he was “only” skipping school till they found him. It COULD have been an abduction so I too wonder why no amber alert.

    1. WonderNoMore says:

As the comments above CLEARLY state, unless it _IS_ a known abduction there is no Amber Alert. As was also pointed out above, there would be 50,000 Ambler Alerts a day as soon as a kid skips school.

      1. RUSerious says:

And just when is it determined it’s CLEARLY an abduction!? 24 hours later when it’s possibly too late?

      2. WonderNoMore says:

Don’t know…I guess someone has to have seen it. I understand what you’re saying, but I also see them not wanting to flood 1000 alerts / day… Guess that’s a question that can be posed to the state (or whoever owns the Amber Alert rules.)

I don’t understand why a 10 yr old is taking himself to school…..Where is the Mom or the Dad.
