Walmart To Sell Anti-Aging Makeup For Pre-Teens

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It hasn’t hit the Walmart shelves yet, but the internet is exploding with a new product line called Geo Girls – a beauty line targeted to eight to 12-year-olds.

The line includes, lipstick, blush, mascara and face shimmer.

Dr. Anthony Mannarino is director of child and adolescent psychiatry at West Penn Allegheny.

“Is this just another way that we’re asking our children to grow up much faster and earlier than is really best for them?” he said.

Mannarino worries that this could lead pre-teens to experiment when they shouldn’t.

“Certainly an 8 or 9 or 10-year-old is not going to have the ability to date, or smoke, or any of the other things that teenagers might try,” he said.

Dr. Justin Vujevich, a dermatologist, adds this medical caution.

“One of the concerns about applying a lot of makeup at that young age is the exposure to allergens,” he said.

But Walmart touts its pre-teen makeup as all natural with anti-aging oxidants.

Dermatologists say it’s unnecessary.

“Most pre-teens at that age probably don’t need the antioxidants that they’re claiming in these products,” Dr. Vujevich said.

OMG They are children! They don’t need makeup! And no one knows what the long term effect will be on their skin. Let kids be kids!

  2. Tracy Sowers-Mahaffey says:

Good grief. Whatever happened to encouraging natural beauty and not needing to cover your daughters beautiful face with make-up?!?!?

  3. Bea says:

Insane! What impact does it have on how they are viewed by pedophiles & molesting adults when they are dressed up like adults, touting sexuality. There will be parents though that let them have it, then wonder why at 12 they are doing other things they shouldn’t. A mixed message to the kids that could get them in real trouble.

It’s about time!!! I’m tired of seeing 12-year olds with crow’s feet!

In like manner also, that woman adorn themselves in modest apparel, with SHAMEFACEDNESS and sobriety; not
with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or
costly array; (And Parents Will Wonder
Why they are Grandparents from a 8 to
    12 year old daugther)

  6. Kendra says:

    LOL @ William.

What kids couldn’t possibly understand is you only have a brief time to be a kid. When you grow up, you’re an adult FOREVER.

Gloss is one thing. No 10 year old needs blush, eyeshadow or mascara.

  7. Robin says:

Unbelievable!! I believe in Natural Beauty!! My 9 year old daughter may be allowed at 12 or 13 to do some eyeshadow. The only thing she is allowed to use is lipgloss or chapstick. Its sad that kids cant be kids. Why do kids need antiaging? Ridiculous!!

  8. Dolly Madison Avenue says:

Think about it. Kids want to look older so they can buy cigarettes, alcohol and fireworks. This wont catch on. Of course, your kids are pretty dumb…

  9. Meany says:

Leave the kids alone. But the ladies interviewed at the Bethel Wal-Mart today could use some.

more shi t from china, time to boycott this china outfit called walmart

.Wal-Mart is the monster in the closet in this story. They saw a perceived under-sold market segment and found a way to capitalize on it. Never mind the ethics of carrying/selling makeup to young girls; it’s all about dollars and non-sense to this giant retailer.
