Wilkinsburg Shooting Injures 2

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) –- Police are continuing to search for a suspect after a shooting left two people injured Sunday morning.

According to police, the shooting happened just after 11 a.m. in the 900-block of South Avenue, not far from a church.

"This morning at 11:09, our two victims were walking down South Avenue here when we believe the actor came out of the funeral home parking lot and started shooting at both the victims," said Allegheny County Police Assistant Supt. James Morton. "The one victim fell where he was hit, the other victim ran towards Penn Avenue."

Jeff Nicely, who lives nearby, was a few blocks away when he said he heard six or seven shots.

"I wouldn't be that surprised if it were one o'clock at night or something... but at this time of day and especially on a Sunday, even more," said Nicely. "It's just crazy; it worries you."

Worship services were just getting underway in the El Bethel Temple on South Avenue. There were several young children inside the church who heard the gunshots.

Police say they believe the suspect may have run alongside the church and down an alley. A police dog was brought in to join the search.

"We have a description of the suspect, but at this time we're not releasing any information on the victims' names or the suspect," said Morton. "As you see, we had a tracking dog from Northern Regional to see if we could trace the flight of the actor."

Police say one victim is in critical condition, the other is listed in fair condition.

Police are interviewing witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call Allegheny County Police at 412-473-1200.
