Wilkinsburg Shooting Suspect Sought

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) - Two people were seriously wounded after they were shot outside of a local church Sunday morning.

The two teenagers were shot as a congregation was entering their house of worship.

In Wilkinsburg, Sunday certainly wasn't a day of rest for Allegheny county homicide detectives.

"Our two victims were walking down South Avenue here and we believe the actor came out of the funeral home parking lot and started shooting at both the victims. The one victim fell where he was hit. The other victim ran up this alley toward Penn Avenue," Allegheny County Police Assistant Superintendent James Morton said.

Two 17-year-olds were shot. One was shot multiple times, while the other was only hit in the arm.

The victim hit in the arm is the one who was able to run toward Penn Avenue. The gunman gave chase and continued to fire at him.

After giving up the chase, the gunman walked back to the other victim lying on the ground and shot him two more times.

"I just started hearing the noises and like I said, at first I didn't think they were shots because I was just so surprised by the time of day," neighbor Jeff Nicely said.

The shooting happened right in front of the El-Bethel Temple as the congregation gathered.

"I wouldn't be that surprised if it were 1 o'clock at night or something. Maybe drug activity or maybe just somebody drunk, but at this time of day and especially on a Sunday even moreso, it's just crazy. It worries you," Nicely said.

The victim shot in the arm is expected to survive. The other victim is believed to be in very critical condition.

The victim who was shot in the arm was previously shot in the same general area a few months ago. According to police, he's not cooperating with them at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to call Allegheny County Police at (412)-473-1200.
