As a physics teacher who has a background in structural mechanics, I am
surprised and amazed by the structures that people build as part of their homes.
Please listen when I tell you this -a contractor is NOT a structural engineer and often times has no idea what he’s building. Also, building permits and city
inspections mean nothing when it’s some politician’s kid doing the inspecting. If
you are building a major structure onto your home, spend the extra money to hire an engineer to check your plans.
