Man Rescued After Car Goes Over Hillside

WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) -- A man had to be pulled to safety after his vehicle went over a hillside in West Mifflin.

The accident happened around 1 p.m. on Glencoe Drive.

According to the deputy fire chief in West Mifflin, the man was trying to get out of his icy driveway, which goes up a hill to the street. He reportedly thought the vehicle was in park when it was not and hit the gas pedal.

The pickup truck traveled through the backyard and over a steep hillside and finally came to a rest 50 to 75 feet down.

Officials say two firefighters and two paramedics scaled the hillside to get to him.

He was conscious and talking when they got to him and used a basket and ropes to bring him to safety.

He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital. The deputy fire chief said he had some cuts to his head. He was released from the hospital just before 6 p.m.
