The Salk vaccine proved to be a huge success, transforming polio from a disease that crippled thousands of people, to one most people rarely think about today.
In honor of the historic event, a contest called “Take a Shot at Changing the World” is being held.
Local middle and high school students can submit videos on the battle against polio.
The winner gets a $5,000 prize.
The deadline to submit entries is March 31.
