Bug Bomb Sickens Resident In Elizabeth Apartment Building

ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – An apartment building in Elizabeth Township had to be evacuated after someone set off a bug bomb.

It happened at the Mt. Vernon Towers apartments in building three in the 2300-block of Surrey Lane.

KDKA's Ralph Iannotti reports the insect bomb was set off in a hallway on the second floor, sending fumes throughout the building.

One woman become overcome by fumes and had to be taken to McKeesport Hospital by ambulance for evaluation.

Officials say the woman was in moderate respiratory distress.

Ian Evans, a neighbor, said he was cooking dinner when he stepped in the hallway and saw the woman falling down the stairs. She was caught by firefighters.

The fire department evacuated the building because it had to be vented.

Greenock Volunteer Fire Chief Robert Greenawald said the RAID bomb was set off maliciously.

Elizabeth Township police are investigating.
