Analyst: Kovalev Deal A 'No-Brainer'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Shawn Roarke, of the NHL.com, joined the FAN Morning Show to talk about the Alex Kovalev trade the Penguins made on Thursday.

Roarke said the trade was a "no-brainer" for Penguins general manager Ray Shero because he was only giving up a sixth or seventh round draft pick.

There were reports that Kovalev didn't get along with the head coach in Ottawa, but Roarke doesn't think that will happen with the Penguins for a number or reasons. First, he thinks Kovalev will be given the chance to play more and get on a roll. Second, the Penguins have a culture of winning and other players will hold him accountable for his actions.

Roarke thinks the addition of Kovalev on the ice will help the team because it will make it harder for the Penguins opponents to defend against them.

Roarke also previews what other moves would be available to Shero at the trade deadline.
