ME Identifies Remains Found In Hazelwood

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has positively identified remains found on a Hazelwood hillside.

Merry Helen Fauley, 55, of West Mifflin, was reported missing on April 20, 2010.

Fauley's remains were positively identified in part because of wire rim glasses and a sweater found near her skeletal remains on New Year's Day.

The items were broadcast on TV last week and her family recognized them.

"I did her laundry. And I folded that sweater so many times," Maranda Karna said. "When I seen the glasses, I knew. I knew even before they positively identified her – I knew."

Karna said her mother was disabled and had post-polio. She says the family has many unanswered questions like how her mother died and how she ended up on the hillside.

The medical examiner has not released the manner and cause of death.
