Robert Morris Reaches Semifinals Of NEC Tournament

MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- For the fourth straight season, the Robert Morris men's basketball team has reached the semifinals of the NEC Tournament.

Behind a career-high 29 points from sophomore guard Velton Jones, Robert Morris hung on to beat Wagner, 78-74, at the Charles L. Sewell Center.

The Colonials improved to 17-13 overall with the win and advance to the semifinals of the NEC Tournament.

Next up for Robert Morris is a trip to Hamden, Conn., for a 2 p.m. game against Quinnipiac.

Jones hit eight of his first 12 shots from the field, including four of five from three-point range and nine for 10 at the free-throw line. He also added six assists.

Redshirt freshman guard Coron Williams added 16 points, while sophomore forward Lijah Thompson contributed 13 points.

Robert Morris and Quinnipiac met once during the regular season, as Colonials fell 69-61.

Those two teams also faced each other in last year's conference championship game.
