Robert Morris Advances To NEC Championship Game
HAMDEN, Conn. (KDKA/AP) - The Robert Morris Colonials ended Quinnipiac's run in the Northeast Conference Tournament for the third straight year with a 64-62 win on Sunday.
The Colonials were tied 62-62 late in the game, when guard Velton Jones hit a fadeaway jumper with six seconds remaining to propel the Colonials into the conference championship game.
Jones finished the game with 13 points, three rebounds, eight assists and three steals.
Coron Williams led Robert Morris with 15 points. Russell Johnson and Lijah Thompson finished with 14 points each.
Quinnipiac out-rebounded Robert Morris 41-25, including 13-4 on the offensive glass. It was a back and forth game that yielded 22 lead changes and 12 ties.
The Colonials will face Long Island University (26-5) in the championship game on Wednesday night. The winner will receive an automatic entry into the NCAA Tournament.
Robert Morris and Long Island split the regular-season series this year.
