Man In Custody, Girl In Hospital After Clairton Stabbing

CLAIRTON (KDKA) -- A 19-year-old man was taken into police custody overnight after a stabbing in Clairton sent a young mother to the hospital.

The incident happened just before midnight on Waddell Avenue.

The suspect, identified as Javier McCleland, is facing charges of attempted criminal homicide and aggravated assault. He was set to be arraigned at 11 a.m.

The 17-year-old girl was reportedly punched at least three times and suffered multiple stab wounds to the head, neck, face and chest.

The two have a child together.

The victim was able to run to a nearby home where she received help from the person living there who happened to be a nurse. Officials have not released the identity of the victim.

She was then taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment. There is no word on her condition, but she reportedly had surgery early this morning to treat a neck wound.

Police took the suspect into custody at the home where the alleged incident happened.

Sources close to investigation say the child was not present at the time of the alleged attack.
