PITTSBURGH (NEWSRADIO 1020 KDKA) — Port Authority of Allegheny County is about to implement big cuts to bus schedules in order to save money, but could a last-minute deal with the Port Authority Union save those cuts?

KDKA AM’s Larry and John talk to Pat McMahon of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 85, who says his union is willing to give up millions of dollars in concessions if Port Authority stops the planned cuts.

MY husband is a Port Authority Driver. To make ends meet he has to work at least 100 hours a pay. If you get people that only make $11.00 an hour how many people are going to get to where they want to go safely. The buses are not easy to drive people in Pittsburgh do not give these drivers a break at all.
These drivers are professionals they went thru alot of training to drive these buses NOT EVERYONE can drive a port authority bus. People are missing the point who would want to be out there driving a bus when you can hardly see or there is 10 inches of snow on the ground not many everyone looks for the big PAT bus. These guys deserve what they earn….

We will not be able to survive with a 13% cut….

“As a matter of fact, under Patrick McMahon’s leadership through tough contract fights in bad economic times, wages for ATU 85’s members have risen at a greater rate than any time in the union’s history”

This is from the ATU 85′s own website. wages rising while ridership falls and PAT’s market shrinks. We are all struggling Tee…the public transportation needs of the county have changed…get used to it.

This is not about some drivers wage, the port authority is OK with wages. In the past years the legacy cost have added up as well as the future. By demonizing the union the company is ripe for this with no public support. THE MANAGEMENT HAS DESTROYED PORT AUTHORITY OVER THE PAST 20 YEARS!!!!! NOT THE UNION, THE MANAGEMENT …THEY ARE PREMIUM DUMMIES WHO CAN’T WORK IN THE REAL WORLD!!! THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS ARE A BUBCH OF TIRED OLD RICH MEN WHO DON’T NEED BUSSES, YOU KNOW IT’S TRUE!!!
