PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Walk off a size in four weeks. A walking workout claims it will flatten your belly, firm every inch, and power off pounds, without dieting.
It worked for Kathy Ashenfelter. She lost 22.5 pounds, in the first eight weeks, on a new walking diet.
“I am thrilled with the results,” Ashenfelter said.
Her success is featured in the new book “Walk Off Weight” by Michele Stanten, the Fitness Director at Prevention Magazine.
“Over and over I would hear I’m walking, but I’m not losing weight. I wanted to put together a program that showed people how to do it in the right way,” Stanten said.
She says her Walk Off Weight, or WOW program, works faster than traditional walking exercise and is designed to burn three time more fat.
KYW-TV in Philadelphia’s Stephanie Stahl asked, “What do you say to the critics who say walking isn’t going to give you big results quickly?”
Stanten said, “We had a group of about two dozen women who tried this. And they lost up to 14 inches, and 23 pounds in those eight weeks.”
You walk between 20 minutes to an hour, six days a week. Walkers will cover a total of 10 to 20 miles, in intervals, with quick bursts at a super fast pace.
“Your heart rates going to go up higher. You’re going to burn calories. Some days we do longer walks. Some days we do shorter walks, all this variation keeps your body on its toes. So it’s burning fat at a higher rate,” Stanten said.
Twice a week there are toning walks, with a resistance bands for strength.
Stanten you see results without dieting, but sticking to 1,600 calories a day doubles the weight loss.
Ashenfelter, who is 63-years-old and works full-time in Philadelphia, stayed on the program and has now lost 28 pounds, and 20 inches, in five months.
“Thrilled that I accomplished it. I guess it’s like one of those moments where you say ‘Oh wow I can’t believe it.’ I like it. I’m happy, very happy,” Ashenfelter said.
To really ramp up the weight loss, Stanten recommends drinking three cups of green tea a day to speed up fat burning.
