Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Scanning the internet, twitter and sources, here are local sports notes that might interest you.

I'll keep this updated thru the day as much as possible.

*Jory Rand is reporting that injured Pens captain Sidney Crosby will take part in the Pens morning skate tomorrow in Tampa Bay. GM Ray Shero says Crosby isn't cleared to practice but can take part in the team's game-day skates.

*Bad news for Pens rookie Dustin Jeffrey. He's scheduled to undergo knee surgery this coming Tuesday. He'll be lost for the season.

*Another spot on the Pirates 25-man roster has been filled. Rookie RHP Mike Crotta will start the season in the bullpen. The last spot will come down to lefty Garrett Olson and RHP Chris Leroux.

*Here's the latest NFL Mock Draft courtesy Pete Prisco and Clark Judge from Cbsspors.com. Prisco has the Steelers taking Baylor OG Danny Watkins in the 1st round. According to Prisco, Watkins "is a nasty player who can play guard and tackle. Judge has the Steelers selecting Miami, Fla. cornerback Brandon Harris.

*Pitt's Jonathan Baldwin wasn't in Prisco or Judge's first round but his teammate Jabaal Sheard was. Judge had the Atlanta Falcon taking Sheard with the 27th pick.

*The Pirates have optioned RHP Chris Leroux to Triple-A Indianapolis.

*The Pirates have also acquired minor league catcher Carlos Paulino from the Florida Marlins in exchange for infielder Jim Negrych. The 21-year-old Paulino played at the Class-A level in 2010 with Greensboro (64 games) and Jupiter (3 games).
